We aim to Recce a route from the Karakorm Highway (KKH) through the amazing Shimshal Valley and the cross the Chapchingal Pass to regain the KKH near Pakistan border with China.
This unique and special trek in a very remote part of Gilgit Baltistan Pakistan. We aim to trek a pioneering route away from the more poplar trekking route. After travelling on the famous karakorum-highway we will embark on a 12 day fully supported trek crossing the 5150m pass. We will then continue onto rejoin the KKH and then continue onto Hunza and experience the beauty and amazing hospitality of the colourful region. We will then continue onto Islamabad where the tour ends.

Shimshal Valley is situated in one of the remotest of Gilgit-Baltistan, in the Karakoram Range. Shimshal has its largest adventure area in Hunza and is a major attraction for tourists. Its mountains like Distaghil Sar, (7885m), Shimshal White Horn, (6303m), Minglik Sar (6050m), Gigantic glaciers. Shimshalis are to Pakistan as Sherpas are to Nepal.

The people of Shimshal are Wakhi and they speak the Wakhi language. Shimshal is the largest village of Hunza Valley.

Please note the rest of this trip is very much exploratory and therefore accurate information and details are not known. So sorry for the lack of detail. This is our planned route and camps but can change depending on the conditions and weather we encounter.

Day 0: Travel from Home Country
Note most flights to Islamabad arrive in the early morning

Day 1: Welcome to Islamabad Airport
Arrive to Islamabad airport and transfer to Hotel. Relax, Recover. Group meeting and briefing. (Hotel)

Day 2: Drive to Chilas
Drive the karakorum-highway(KKH) to the town of Chilas 9-10 hours Drive. (Hotel)

Day 3: Chilas - Karimabad
Continuing our drive along the karakorum-highway(KKH) to the mountain town of Karmiabad 5-6 hours drive 2500m. (Hotel)

Day 4: Karimabad - Passu
Another spectacular day driving to , cross the lake by boats and drive to Passu. (hotel)

Day 5: Passu - Shimshal village (3250m) by jeep. Overnight local hotel.

Day 6: Trek Shimshal to Forzine 5-6 hours walk. Camp (B/L/D)

Day 7: Trek Forzine to Arbab Periyane. Camp (B/L/D)

Day 8: Trek Arbab Periyane to Shijuerab Camp. Aclimitisation side trip.(B/L/D)

Day 9: Trek Back by the same route to Arbab Periyan. Camp (B/L/D)

Day 10: Trek Mahidur to Shopodin Pass. Camp (B/L/D)

Day 12: Shopodin Pass rest day rest. (B/L/D)

Day 11: Trek Mahidur to Shopodin Pass. camp. (B/L/D)

Day 13: Trek Shopodin to Mandi Kushlag 5-6 hours walk. Camp. (B/L/D)

Day 14: Mandi Kushlag to Warbain. Camp (B/L/D)

Day 15: Trek Warbain to Targeen. Camp (B/L/D)

Day 16: Trek Cross Chapchingal Pass and camp other side of the pass.Camp (B/L/D)

Day 17: Trek to Kuksel KKH Drive Passu. Hotel
After breakfast trek to Kuksel on the KKH (2-3 hrs) then meet your van/jeep to drive to Passu.  Hotel

Day 18: Drive Passu – Karimabad. Hotel

Day 19: Karimabad to Chilas Hotel

Day 20: Drive Chilas – Naran via Babusar Pass. Hotel

Day 21: Naran to Islamabad. Hotel

Day 22: Spare / Contingency Date

Shimshal Valley

Shimshal is a beautiful village located in Gojal hunza. It lies at an altitude of 3,000m above sea level, and is the highest settlement in Hunza Valley of Pakistan. The total area is 3,800 km and inhabitant of around two thousand population with two hundred and forty households. The valley is situated in one of the remotest part of North Pakistan Karakorum Range. Shimshal was isolated till 2002; north frontier works organization and private NGO’s built link road from Passu (KKH) to Shimshal valley. Shimshal Chapchigal Pass trek & climb Minglik Sar 6050m is similar mini expedition and strenuous trekking over Chafchingol pass to KKH Kuksil. There are several virgin peaks around the valley also trekking routes leads to different valleys e.g. KKH, Hisper valley, Pamir valleys and Biafo glacier over Kurdopine pass. The trip starts from Islamabad via the legendary Karakorum Highway to Passu (upper Hunza) and from KKH jeepable leads to Shimshal.
